AFSCME, the union that represents so many of our low-paid service workers, will be holding a 24-hour strike on Wednesday (November 13). They have been in negotiation with the university administration for two and a half years. The specific focus of the Wednesday strike is the unfair labor practice of outsourcing. See below.
BFA supports the strike and has received the green light from AFSCME to continue with its Town Hall Meeting, scheduled for Wednesday evening, on “Choosing the Next UC President”. We will discuss the qualifications we think the Regents should consider in seeking and evaluating candidates to succeed Janet Napolitano.
The Town Hall will be held on November 13, 6-8p.m. in 402 Barrows Hall. It will begin with a short introduction by Christopher Newfield (UCSB) on the challenges facing public universities, followed by short proposals or comments from representatives of the sponsoring organizations – BFA, Latinx Faculty Association, UC-AFT (Lecturers and Librarians) and the Academic Senate. All are welcome to attend.
