The Berkeley Faculty Association will be holding its Fall Board meeting tomorrow evening. On the agenda are two big issues: one concerns the broadening of membership and leadership, and the other concerns BFA’s response to the challenges of the present conjuncture – especially the impending cuts, furloughs, lay-offs as a response to escalating budget deficits. If there are other issues you think we should be taking up, don’t hesitate to let us know in the next 24 hours.

We would also draw your attention to the announcement made last week: that between 2009 and 2016 the campus misclassified some 1,100 crimes as student misconduct. You can find the response of Chancellor Christ here and the Federal Report here. You may recall that 2009-2016 was also the period of the cover-up of sexual harassment that led to the resignation of Chancellor Dirks. Together they can be seen as part of an attempt to suppress any information that might adversely affect the branding of Berkeley. We hope no such costly and deceptive efforts to protect the campus’s reputation are ongoing.
