During last week’s peaceful protest, honoring the 50th anniversary of the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and his support for racial justice and labor rights, one campus worker was arrested and suffered injuries. UCB’s administration put out a statement about the incident that has been challenged by other witnesses, and a petition is circulating demanding a thorough investigation of possible police misconduct. There will be a rally hosted by AFSCME – the union representing so many of our workers – on Wednesday, 11.30a.m.-1p.m. at California Hall to protest racial injustice on campus. Meanwhile, on another social justice front, there is still uncertainty about the fate of DACA students, pending negotiations in Congress.
