BFA believes that faculty, staff and students need to help mobilize the people of California to support public higher education. There are things that can be done to improve state funding of the university and all education in the state.
The California Democracy Act
The Berkeley Faculty Association has endorsed the California Democracy Act. This act seeks to change the current 2/3 requirement for the California state legislature to raise revenue to a simple majority vote. It reads, “All legislative actions on revenue and budget must be determined by a majority vote.”
UPDATE: The petition to get the California Democracy Act on the ballot has been withdrawn. There will, however, be another campaign to gather signatures. For more information, read this article in the Sacramento Bee: Measure to lower tax vote withdrawn, will be re-written
